How long have you worked in school communications?
2-5 years
Why did you become a school communicator?
The job of a school communicator wasn’t on my radar until the school district that I was covering as a reporter had an opening for one. It was the perfect match to allow me to keep writing and highlighting the important work of public schools while celebrating the great work of our educators and student achievement.
What do you enjoy most about being a school communicator?
I love sharing the stories of our teachers, principals, administrators and everyone who’s doing their best to make our public schools and the educational experience a wonderful experience for our students.
Why did you decide to become a member of the New England School Public Relations Association?
Being new to the world of school communications, NESPRA provided an excellent opportunity to connect with others who were doing the job. I met people who had been in their positions for years and had great knowledge and tips on how to handle different situations. I could also bond with those who were making the transition into school communications like me and share stories of our past careers and how they were influencing our current work.
What has been the most rewarding part of your membership so far?
Meeting all of the other members from across the region and learning from their experiences.
I love visiting National Parks and collecting Passport stamps. It’s been a great way to see so many places across the country.
